Deranged Orange Halloween Heads

Create these easy "Deranged" Halloween heads as a fun classroom craft.  To make this craft I used oranges for the base of the head.  I wanted to use oranges so that after Halloween kids have a healthy food option.  - Fun little twist on all the candy that usually accompanies Halloween festiveness.

Materials:
Black 6" Tulle
Rubber-bands
Googly Eyes
Foam
Halloween Foam Stickers
Green Pipe Cleaners
Craft Feathers
Glue Dots Craft
Scissors
Pinking Sheers (optional)

Instructions:
1. Purchase oranges to use to create your deranged Halloween heads.

2. Cut two tulle strips, 12" long.  Fold the strips and half and the place then in a X.  Place the orange in the center.

3. Hold the tulle in place with a small rubber-band.

4. Trim the top of the tulle with pinking sheers.

5. Wrap a pipe cleaner around the top of the rubber-band.  Add a feather to the pipe cleaner.  Twirl the ends of the pipe cleaner around your finger to create fun ringlets.

6. Using Glue Dots Craft attach googly eyes, a nose, mouth, and some Halloween foam stickers.

* I will be bringing oranges into my daughter's 3rd grade class to make this craft.  However, I will cut the tulle and rubber-band it in place for all the kids.  The kids should have fun decorating the heads but the tulle might be too difficult.

Fall Hair Bow Tutorial: Custom Ribbon with Glue Dots® Glue Lines

To make custom ribbon for hair bows use Glue Dots® Glue Lines 25ft.  The Glue Lines come on a continuous roll making it very easy to attach to ribbon strands.  Stack one ribbon color on top of another and glue in place for your own custom style ribbon pattern.  Using Glue Lines to create custom ribbon is one of the best ways that I have found to attach one ribbon to another.  Ironing adhesive onto ribbons can be a real pain and make the ribbon too stiff, hot gluing two ribbons together often leaves marks and bumps in the ribbon.  I designed a fall loopy bow on a French hair clip using my own unique style ribbon color combos created using Glue Dots® Glue Lines.

Materials Needed:
Glue Dots® Glue Lines
22” of 5/8” wide purple satin
22” of 5/8” wide gray satin
22” of 3/8” black grosgrain with white stitch
22” of 3/8” orange grosgrain with red stitch
2” French Clip
Bowdabra® Bow Wire

Instructions:
1. Begin by cutting 4 strands of ribbon of 22” long ribbon.

2. Attach the Glue Dots® Glue Lines to the center of the grosgrain ribbon.

3. Press the satin and the grosgrain ribbons together to create your own unique style ribbon.

4. Create two strands of unique ribbon.

5. Attach the ribbon strands to a large French clip.  The French clip is the easiest to work with if you remove the centerpiece and place it to the side.

6. Dovetail and seal the ends of the two strands.  Attach the end to the French clip using Bowdabra Bow Wire.

7. Create loops with the two strands.  Once the two loops are formed wrap the wire once around the ribbon and the clip.  Continue forming strands and crisscrossing the ribbon.

8. Create loops until you reach the end of the clip.  Remember after each set of loops is formed to wrap the Bowdabra Bow Wire around the ribbon and the clip.

9. When you reach the end knot the wire and dovetail and seal the ends.

10. Trim away excess wire and re-insert the metal centerpiece of the French clip.

11. Your unique fall hair bow with custom ribbons is complete.

Straight From the Nest - Owl Always Love You Card

Yesterday, I reviewed Straight From the Nest Provo Craft Cricut Cartridge on CraftsUnleashed.com.  To read my full review of this craft cartridge click here.

I really enjoyed the cartridge and all the amazing cut-outs it could create!  I especially loved all the little sayings.  My favorite saying was: "Owl Always Love You".

I used the saying to design this card.

First, I started with a plain card and added blue handmade paper to the front.

Using my Cricut Expression I cut out all the multiple layers for the owl.

Lastly, I cut out the saying.  I cut the saying in two different sizes.  I liked the "Owl" large but the rest of the saying I preferred smaller.

I am thrilled with my "Owl" card and the versatility of the Straight From the Nest Provo Craft Cartridge.  The cartridge has so many great features I can't wait to use them all!

Decorative Fall Tissue Box Holder

During fall I have tissue boxes around the house everywhere!  Fall is by the hardest on our allergies and there are always lots of sniffles.  I wanted to make a decorative fall tissue box holder that I could place in my living room.  My goal was to design an elegant posh decorative tissue box holder.  Is that possible?

Recently, I was chosen to be a Glue Dots Design Team Member (Glue Dottess) and this decorative tissue box holder is my first tutorial for them.  I am really happy with the results, the Glue Dots® were very easy to work with and I loved their versatility!

Materials Needed:
·       Glue Dots® Continuous Lines
·       Glue Dots® Removable
·       Glue Dots® Pop-Up
·       Glue Dots® Craft
·       Unfinished Wooden Tissue Box Holder
·       Acrylic Paint
·       Heavy Cardstock
·       Recycled Buttons
·       2” Wire Ribbon
·       Spooled Sequins
·       Bowdabra®
·       Bowdabra® Bow Wire

Instructions:

1. Begin with an unfinished wooden tissue box holder.

2. Paint the wooden tissue box holder with acrylic paint and let dry.

3. Heavy cardstock works best to create stencils.  Use the removable Glue Dots® to attach the stencils and paint.  Easily remove the stencils and peel the removable Glue Dots® from the wood.   Let the paint dry.

4. Adhere Glue Dots® Continuous Lines along the top and the bottom of the tissue box holder.  Attach sequin ribbon along the bottom and the top.

5. Collect buttons with plastic loops on the back.  Remove the loops with wire cutters.   Attach the buttons to the front of the tissue box by adhering Glue Dots® Craft to the back of the buttons.

6.  Place several buttons onto the front of the tissue box holder.

7. Finish the fall decorative tissue box holder with a Bowdabra Bow.  To make the bow begin by cutting 24” of Bowdabra Bow Wire and folding it in half and placing it into the Bowdabra.

8. Cut ribbon with dovetail ends and place it into the Bowdabra this will be the bow’s tails.

9. Fold and press ribbon into the Bowdabra creating several loops.  Make the last loop smaller than the rest.

10. Scrunch down the bow with the Bowdabra Wand.

11. While the bow is still in the Bowdabra, thread the two loose ends of the Bowdabra Bow Wire through the loop at the other end.

12. Pull the Bowdabra Bow Wire tightly while the bow is still in the Bowdabra.

13. Gently pull the bow out of the Bowdabra. Separate the two loose ends of the Bowdabra Bow Wire and bring them around to the back of the bow. To tie off the bow, pinch the Bowdabra Bow Wire securely against the bow. Twist the bow 4 to 6 times in a clockwise direction.

14. Fluff the bow.

15. Attach the fall wire bow to the side of the tissue box using Glue Dots Pop-Ups ®. Your tissue box is complete and ready to be displayed.

16. I am really thrilled with my fall decorative tissue box holder!

I love when I create something that is functional and useful!
