How to Make an Easter Basket From a Tropicana Carton

Sewing and Crafting with Sarah was chosen to be a Juicy Rewards Insider Ambassador for Tropicana. Currently, Tropicana is offering codes on their juice cartons that then can be transferred into rewards and savings on, “Everything from golf and workout gear to waterpark and zoo admissions”. When visiting their rewards site there is a tag line that reads, “20,000 things to do with an empty juice carton”, the tag line is in reference to all there great savings programs (and they are great!). But, I decided to take that one step further and create something with the empty carton. I love to reuse and recycle and find new and exciting ways to use something that would have been otherwise trash.

Once, Tropicana carton is empty rinse and let dry.

Next, measure 4” inches from the bottom up all around the carton, mark with a pen. Also, mark a 1” handle from the center, up to the top of the carton, on two opposite sides.

Carefully, cut along the lines you have marked.

Staple the handle ends together in the center.

Attach a 1 ½ inch piece of ribbon from the underneath of the carton, across the handle, and to the underneath of the other side (I used tape on each end of the ribbon to hold it in place).

Next, using the 1 ½ inch ribbon attach it to the two other sides in the middle. Fold the ribbon inside the basket and tape down and run it along the underneath of the carton and fold and tape it on the other side.

Do the same process of folding, taping, running it along the bottom, to the other side with 3/8 inch ribbon on all four sides (using two strands on each side).

To begin weaving the ribbon start first with 7/8 inch ribbon glue dot one end down, weave it, and then glue dot the other end in place.

For all the ribbon to fit perfectly in the 4” space use 3 strands of 7/8 inch ribbon and 4 strands of 3/8 inch ribbon. This also allows the ribbon to fold down slightly over the bottom edge of the carton.

I filled the basket with shredded paper and placed last year’s plastic eggs that I recycled into little Easter Bunnies, inside.

If you also have a love for recycling and reusing; you can use a portion or all of your points towards “Rescue the Rainforest with Tropicana Rewards”. For every 3 points you donate 100 sq ft of the rainforest will be rescued. Click here to donate and see the great impact you, I, and many others have had on the preservation of the rainforest.

Reuse and Recycle,
Sarah Forhan
